3 Tips on How to Prevent Tough Stains

Sharing is caring!

All of us often wear our favorite shirts or outfits when we go out. Whether you’re using it for an event, party, BBQ night, or casual night out, we can’t always prevent it from getting stained accidentally. Therefore, we’ll provide you with tips on how to remove tough stains from clothes and prevent them.

Some stains on clothes are not permanent but it can be a pain to remove them completely from your clothes. So here are a few tips on how you can prevent it from splattering on any type of fabric.

  • Take Advantage of Table Napkins

If you’re eating at a restaurant or any fast food chain, place a table napkin or handkerchief on your lap and over your chest. This will help prevent being flecked with sauce, oil, grease, and others on your clothes. It will be bad to look at your white or any light-colored clothes stained with red or orange sauces. So it’s better to be safe than sorry.

  • Use Disposable or Reusable Suits

If you’ll be doing a messy activity such as gardening, plumbing, or painting, consider using a suit that is easy to clean or dispose of. If you’re going to use a reusable suit, make sure that it’s safe for laundry cleaning services in Beverly Hills, CA

  • Wash the Stain Immediately

You can’t always prevent food, dirt, or paint from staining your clothes. One way to prevent it from permanently staining your clothes is by washing it off the second it makes contact with the fabric. The longer the stain stays on your clothes, the harder it is to remove.

5 Types of Stains and How to Remove it

  • Red Wine Stain

Beverages are one of the most common culprits for stains on clothes. If the fabric is still damp from the wine, immediately sprinkle it with baking soda to absorb it. Once the wine is absorbed, cover the stain with a good amount of salt and let it sit for 5 minutes. You can skip this part if the stain is not that dark. And lastly, toss it into the washing machine with the highest heat and wait for it to finish.

  • Oil, Sauce, and Grease

Meat grease, sauce, and salad dressing are fairly easy to remove from fabrics. Simply pour cornstarch, baking soda, or any type of powder on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Brush the cornstarch off and toss it into the washing machine once the oil is removed.

  • Blood Stain

Unexpected wounds such as scraped knees, bloody noses, or shaving nicks can stain your clothes. Blood is one of the hardest stains to remove if not done immediately. While the stain is still fresh, simply soak it in white vinegar with a mix of warm water. Scrub it off until the blood is fully removed.

  • Lipstick Stain

Compared to those mentioned above, it’s hard to remove lipstick from certain types of clothing such as wool, cashmere, and silk which will require the expertise of a professional cleaner. If your lipstick-stained clothes are not among the mentioned fabrics, scrape off the excess lipstick. Then dab an ample amount of dishwashing liquid on the other side of the stain.

Flip the fabric again and carefully scrub the stain with a toothbrush. Make sure you’ve applied enough dishwashing soap to the back of the stain so that it slightly foams. After that, hand wash the clothes and repeat the steps until the stain is completely removed.

  • Ink Stain

As a working individual, there will always be a time when you get ink on your clothes whether it’s from a Sharpie or a ballpoint pen. There are a couple of ways to remove it from your clothes. One is to apply a dab of white toothpaste on the stain and rub or brush it firmly.

Another method is placing a paper towel on the opposite side of the stain and rubbing alcohol directly on the ink. If it can’t be removed, you should then ask for professional cleaning services if you want to save your shirt or clothes.

Removing a stain is not easy. If you’ve tried all kinds of methods on the internet and still couldn’t get the stain off, it’s time for you to use professional laundry cleaning services in Beverly Hills, CA.
