WHEN DOING LAUNDRY

The Ultimate Guide to Sorting Your Laundry: Tips for Efficiency

Sharing is caring!

Many people find laundry to be an intimidating task. This household chore, however, becomes doable if you follow the nine suggestions I’m about to give. These are steps that professionals take when doing the laundry. You can either hand over your pile of used clothes to them or do the washing yourself. That’s right, DIY or professional laundry is the choice you have to make.

1. Separate by Color

Sorting your garments according to color is the most basic of all laundry steps. This is to avoid color bleeding and keep the whites from being stained by other vibrant hues that they’re mixed with. Assemble the whites, lights, and darks into three primary heaps.

2. Check for Stains

Look for stains on your clothing before throwing it in the laundry. The likelihood of totally eliminating stains can be greatly increased by pretreating them before washing. For stubborn spots, you can apply stain removers or easy DIY solutions like vinegar and baking soda.

3. Sort by Fabric Type

Various textiles need different maintenance. To keep your clothes from getting damaged, sort your laundry according to the type of fabric. Wash delicate goods like silk and lace separately from durable ones like towels or jeans.

4. Zip and Button Up

Make sure to zip up zippers, button up buttons, secure hooks, or close Velcro strips. This prevents damage like the tearing of delicate fabric during the back-and-forth motion of the washing machine. It will lessen the strain on your clothes.

5. Empty Pockets

This isn’t so much the pros and cons of DIY vs. professional laundry as it is the right way to do your laundry the way experts do. Empty all of your pockets before tossing your garments in the washing machine. Objects like coins or keys can harm it. Tissues and paper can leave lint all over the other clothes

6. Separate Heavily Soiled Items

Wash extremely soiled or greasy clothes separately from your normal laundry. Save it for last. It can be difficult to eliminate oil or dirt transfer if you combine them altogether. Make a different pile for heavily soiled work clothes or stained items.

7. Sort by Temperature

The required water temperature for each load must be considered for this step. Washing whites in hot water, lights in warm water, and darks in cold water is the standard method. Sorting your clothes based on the temperature you’ll be setting for them guarantees that they are cleaned efficiently.

8. Mind the Lint

A big problem when sorting laundry is lint. Mixing lint east targets like dark garments with lint-producing textiles like towels and animal wool should be avoided. Before washing, shake off towels and flip clothes made of animal wool inside out to reduce lint accumulation.

9. Be Mindful of Size

Think about how big and heavy your laundry loads are. If your washing machine has too many clothes, it may not wash as well. To guarantee ideal cleaning and rinsing, fill the machine to roughly 75% of its capacity. This will strike a good balance between the right amount of garments and the best cleaning results.

Laundry, Dry Cleaning and Alterations

Sorting your laundry effectively may seem like a minor matter, but it has a big impact on the quality of the laundry process. Segregate them by color, fabric type, and the temperature at which you’ll be washing them. Put aside clothes that have stains and those that are extremely dirty for different loads. To avoid damage to the fabric, close the zippers, buttons, hooks, and Velcro straps. Keep in mind to empty the pockets.
